The Daimler DI (also known under the company name L6 ) was a German fighter aircraft from the First World War . It was a conventional biplane construction with a very flat canopy - the upper wing almost touched the top of the fuselage. A water-cooled V8 engine Mercedes D IIIb served as the drive .

description

The L 6 was the first attempt by Daimler Motorengesellschaft in the field of single-seat flight constructions, after it had previously built products from other manufacturers under license (FF G III, G IV etc.). The elegant hunter was constructed around the 185 hp V-eight engine D IIIb from Daimler. Six aircraft of this type were built, and one took part in the second D-type competition in Adlershof from May to June 1918. There were three test ascents to 5,000 m. (16,400 ft.) With a payload of 922 kg. (2,028 lb.) and times of 19.4 minutes, 21.4 minutes and 16.8 minutes were recorded. All tests were done on the same propeller , a 3.1 m diameter propulsor with a 2.85 m incline, which shows how different performance was with an airplane. Two Spandau machine guns from the Spandau rifle factory were used as armament.
