Theophil Heimb

Theophil Heimb OCist (born October 29, 1706 in Bad Kreuzen , † February 20, 1773 in Vienna ) was an Austrian Roman Catholic priest , Cistercian , preacher and religious historian .

Life

Heimb joined the Heiligenkreuz Abbey and made solemn profession in 1730 . In 1732 he was ordained a priest . From 1734 to 1736 he was Rentmeister and theology teacher in the monastery . From 1737 to 1739 he taught theology in Baumgartenberg Abbey , then again in Heiligenkreuz. From 1742 to 1750 he was a parish administrator in Münchendorf and built a parsonage there. After renewed theology apprenticeship in Heiligenkreuz (1750–1752) and a time as secretary of Abbot Robert Leeb in the last years of his work (1752–1755) he was again parish administrator, first in Mönchhof (1755–1758), then in Niedersulz (1758–1758) 1761). From 1762 until his death in 1773 he was in charge of the Heiligenkreuzerhof in Vienna and organized the archive there.

Order historian and preacher

Heimb is best known for his Latin-language history of the Szentgotthárd Monastery , published in 1764 , which passed into the hands of Heiligenkreuz in 1734. He also got a copy of the Holy Cross Abt Gutolf written Vita of St. Bernhard of Clairvaux . His history of the parish of Alland remained in writing.

Heimb's preaching activity is well documented, of which at least 13 printed sermons existed between 1747 and 1767. The subject of his teaching, praise and honorary speeches were Augustine von Hippo (1747 and 1748), Philipp Benizi (1749), Nikolaus von Tolentino (1750), Maria Magdalena (1751), Johannes Nepomuk (1752 and 1760), Florian von Lorch ( 1762), Joseph of Nazareth (1763), the Archangel Michael (1767), as well as Antonius of Padua , Cecilia of Rome and the Adoration of the Most Holy on the model of the Magi .
