Daishi Canal

The Daishi Canal ( Japanese 大師 運河 Daishi unga , literally "Grand Teacher Canal") is an artificial waterway in the Japanese city of Kawasaki ( Kanagawa Prefecture ). The name of the canal is derived from the nearby Kawasaki-Daishi (or Heiken-ji ) temple .

The canal is located in the southern part of the Kawasaki district, part of the Keihin industrial belt . It runs roughly from north to south between the districts of Chidori and Ukishima, which are located on landfill islands. Both banks of the canal are equipped with numerous terminals for oil tankers , as large companies in the petrochemical industry are located on the adjacent islands .
