Daisy Granados

Daisy Granados López (born December 9, 1942 in Cienfuegos ) is a Cuban actress . With her extensive filmography, she is now considered the “ diva of Cuban film”.

Life

Granados studied at the Escuela Nacional de Arte in Havana and started as a theater actress. In 1964 she made her film debut in José Massip's film La decisión . She then appeared in European productions such as Egon Günther's satire When you grow up, dear Adam (1965) and Víctor Erices Los desafíos (1969). Directed by her husband Pastor Vega , she had her international breakthrough in the title role of the film Retrato de Teresa in 1979 and received several awards, including at the Moscow International Film Festival . Using the example of a weaver, the film deals with the position of women in Cuban society and their attempt to break out of the traditional, macho role model.

The multi-award-winning actress Granados worked with the Cuban directors Tomás Gutiérrez Alea ( Memorias del subdesarrollo ) and Humberto Solás ( Cecilia ) and represented her country at numerous international events. In 2007 she was awarded the National Film Prize of Cuba.
