Víctor Erice
Víctor Erice (born June 30, 1940 in Karrantza , Bizkaia , Basque Country ) is a Spanish film director .
biography
After completing his studies in law and politics and economics, he began studying directing at the Escuela de Cine in Madrid . In the 1960s he worked as a critic (including for Nuestro Cine ) and screenwriter, while also directing a few short films. In 1969 he made the episodic film Tödliche Jeaersucht together with Claudio Guerin and José Luis Egea .
With his first own feature film The Spirit of the Beehive , he won the Golden Shell, the main prize of the festival, at the Festival Internacional de Cine de Donostia-San Sebastián 1973. The film is set in Spain in the 1940s and shows two siblings who, after watching a Frankenstein film, go in search of the artificial human.
His next project, El Sur (The South) , based on a novel by Adelaida García Morales , appeared ten years later . This film, again awarded several awards, tells about a girl who lives in the north of Spain and is fascinated by the alleged mysteries of the south. In 1992 he brought out his third longer and so far last film The Light of the Quitten Tree , a documentary film about the hyper-realistic painter Antonio López. The film won the FIPRESCI Prize and the Jury Prize at the Cannes International Film Festival .
In 2002 he was one of the participating directors of the Ten Minutes Older short film collection, alongside Jim Jarmusch and Jean-Luc Godard, for example .
He shot the short film La morte rouge for an exhibition in Barcelona in 2006 . This exhibition, Erice. Kiarostami. Correspondències , dedicated to the work of Víctor Erice and Abbas Kiarostamis . In 2010 he was appointed to the competition jury at the 63rd Cannes Film Festival .
