Adelaida García Morales (* 1945 in Badajoz , Province of Badajoz , † September 22, 2014 in Dos Hermanas , Province of Seville ) was a Spanish writer whose stories are written from the psychological point of view of a woman and often deal with fantastic and melodramatic intrigues. In 1985 she was awarded the Herralde Novel Prize.

Life

Adelaida García Morales studied Philosophy and Literature at the Complutense University of Madrid , graduating in 1970. Then she worked as a teacher and literary scholar . Her debut novel Archipiélago was published in 1981; However, she only achieved greater fame four years later with the 1985 novel El sur , which was adapted by Víctor Erice for his film of the same name . Also in 1985 the novel Bene was published , which, like El sur, is set in a rural area and deals with a magical evocation of the past full of secrets from the perspective of a girl.

For her book El silencio de las sirenas , also published in 1985 , Adelaida García Morales was awarded the Herralde Novel Prize in 1985. In it, too, she described a mysterious universe full of extraordinary, fantastic events. She then published La lógica del vampiro 1990 (German: The logic of the vampire ), Las mujeres de Héctor 1994 and Mi tía Águeda 1995, the protagonist of which is concerned with her childhood, the death of her mother and the guardianship of her intolerant aunt Agatha remind. As in most of her work, women take the lead, while men are only secondary in the intimate world of these main characters. The protagonists almost always immerse themselves in their memories in order to restore their real, full and independent identity. Her book Nasmiya (German: The Geometry of Love ), published in 1996, is about a woman who married a Muslim and converted to Islam and about her cultural environment, moving into the house as a second wife of the man.
