The Dakshineswar Kali Temple ( Bengali : দক্ষিণেশ্বর , Dakṣiṇeśbar ) is a Hindu temple complex north of Kolkata on Gangesarm Hugli , next to the Hooghly Bridge Vivekananda Setu . It is located in the district of North 24 Parganas , Subdivision Barakpur .

The temple complex was built between 1847 and 1855, funded by Rani Rasmani. It consists of a main temple of the goddess Kali , another Radha - Krishna -Schrein and 12 small Shiva -Tempeln which lie on the side facing the river. On the temple grounds there is also the living room of Ramakrishna (a room with a bed and many photographs on the wall), which is also religiously venerated by the faithful, and who worked as a priest here for over 30 years until his death in 1886. The entire temple complex is also easily accessible to non-Hindus.

There is a constant ferry connection to Belur Math , which is located a little downstream , and which is the headquarters of the Ramakrishna Mission founded by Ramakrishna's disciple Vivekananda .
