The Dalberger Hof is under monument protection standing cultural monument in Bensheim on the mountain road . It is an old noble court of the Dalberg family .

History and the present

The Dalberger Hof is located in Dalberger Gasse 15, directly on the north-western former Bensheim city wall. Parts of the old city wall were built into the Adelshof. The Park Theater , which is adjacent to parts of the building, is directly adjacent to the building . The Dalberger Hof was probably built in 1586/87, together with the city wall tower that has meanwhile been integrated into the building. The former owners of the farm, the Dalberg family, had been wealthy in Bensheim since the 15th century. In the course of history, the Dalberger Hof has been rebuilt several times and used in various ways. Protestant services were held from 1852 to the inauguration of Michael’s Church in 1863. A Protestant school was established in 1858. In 1866 the Dalberger Hof then became the property of the city of Bensheim, which used the building as a customs office for a long time. It was converted into a restaurant in the 1950s. On the upper floor of the building the so-called coat of arms hall was redesigned by Franz Freyer as part of the renovation work. The hall is used for various events. At times the Gertrud Eysoldt Ring was awarded in the Dalberger Hof.

construction

The Dalberger Hof is an elongated two-story building. On the south side there is a console-supported open half-timbered gallery. The protruding south wing of the building is provided with a round arch portal. The building, which is also characteristic of the cityscape of Bensheim, is the three-storey city wall tower in the west. It is made of exposed brickwork and has had a curly slate-covered hood and a weather vane since the 18th century. The tower has its own half-timbered arcade . The window openings framed with sandstone date from the recent past. A Bensheim boundary stone from 1517 is walled in on the north side of the tower , which is, however, covered by the Park Theater.
