After initially occasional public performances, a series of concerts was established in the Morton H. Meyerson Symphony Center from 1990 onwards .
After Howard Dunn's death in 1991, Jerry F. Junkin, Director of Bands at the University of Texas at Austin , became the new artistic director and conductor in 1993 . From the mid-1990s until his death in 2004, Frederick Fennell also worked as an important guest conductor with the orchestra.
