Damaris Mallma Porras (born January 26, 1986 in Huancayo ) is a Peruvian folk singer . She is a representative of contemporary Andean music , which consists of a mix of the traditional Indian language Quechua and modern pop music .

biography

Damaris was born on January 26, 1986 in Huancayo . She is the daughter of the singer Victoria de Ayacucho, better known as Saywa . She started her music career in 1993 at the age of 7 in the music workshop "Yawar" and then studied singing, music, theater and dance in Peru. She made her debut as a singer in 1994 at various institutions such as the Teatro Segura in Lima, the Miraflores Amphitheater and the Universidad Mayor de San Marcos. Damaris also participated in Peruvian groups such as Yawar , Saywa , Tupay and the Andean Youth Choir with 20 musicians from 5 different Andean countries . In 2008 she won the Viña del Mar Folk Song Festival . At the Latin Grammy Awards 2008 she was nominated for her album Mil Caminos in the category "Best Folk Album".
