Salome Ladies Orchestra

The women's orchestra Salome is a concert, show and dance orchestra from Berlin that plays a mixture of swing and jive , Latin and soul .

history

In November 1997 the orchestra was founded as a professional entertainment orchestra in Berlin by the pianist and arranger Bettina Erchinger and the guitarist and composer Paul Esslinger . The first public appearance took place in February 1998 in the "Cafe Pio" in Berlin-Kreuzberg . Many other appearances at concerts, galas and balls, festivals, shows and sporting events followed.

A rather unusual formation with drums, e-bass , keyboard / piano, three saxophones (flute / clarinet) and two singers was chosen as the line-up. As a name for this line-up, the founding duo coined the term “Pocket Big Band”.

The ensemble's repertoire consists largely of cover versions of well-known songs from the 1920s to 1990s. The repertoire is characterized by a broad stylistic cross-section.

Since 2001 the orchestra has also performed as a brass band with three saxophones, trumpet, sousaphone , banjo , snare drum and bass drum . The repertoire for this instrumentation consists largely of compositions by Erchinger and Esslinger.

The orchestra gave concerts in the Philharmonie Berlin , at the Dixieland Festival Dresden , at the Potsdam Palace Night and on the lakeside promenades in Binz and Borkum. As a gala and ball orchestra the ensemble u. a. at the Federal Press Ball and at the Federal President's summer party in Berlin. Also on television such as B. at the NDR talk show the band could be seen. As a concert show orchestra, the ladies orchestra was u. a. awarded the Stuttgart Show Prize 2011.
