Dam guard

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A dam guard is a protective measure used by the fire brigade to ensure the stability of dams or dykes in the event of flooding .

procedure

It is carried out 24 hours a day, often with multiple shifts . The embankment watch reports water levels to the operations management . If necessary, the top of the dike must be reinforced and leaks such as seepage lines , subsidence or ground breaks must be sealed with sandbags . It may also be necessary to use special slide or polder or sluices to open specifically water into prepared flood areas to drain to lower the peak wave.

background

The embankment guard must ensure that the constructions to be fixed along the rivers and canals are prevented by additional elevations of the dyke or dam crests against inflowing water into residential or industrial areas .
