Dancing Ledge is located at Langton Matravers on the Isle of Purbeck . It is about two kilometers southwest of Swanage and seven kilometers southeast of Corfe Castle , in the county of Dorset , on the south coast of England .

Dancing Ledge is part of the Jurassic Coast , a World Heritage Site .

There used to be a quarry on Dancing Ledge. The Isle of Purbeck area has a long history as a quarry, particularly along the cliffs to the south. The quarries were suppliers of Purbeck stone and Purbeck marble . Since the rock was in shallow water, a swimming pool-sized cavity was blasted into the rock at the beginning of the 20th century so that schoolchildren could swim there safely.
