Django - Relentless like the sun (OT: Sentenza di Morte ) is a twisted in Spain and Italy in 1967 spaghetti western , that of Mario Lanfranchi has been realized. action
In a barren desert under a blue sky and in the scorching heat, two men pursue each other, both of whom are completely exhausted. Their faces are burned from the sun to the flesh. They drag themselves laboriously along. The hunted is Diaz and his relentless pursuer is Django. In a flashback, Django's brother is shot dead by four men. The killers are the rancher Diaz, the poker player Montero, the clergyman Baldwin and the albino O'Hara.
All four have forgotten the murder when Django appeared, as it was a long time ago. Django Diaz drifts further and further in the desert. At night he builds a dummy that looks like a fountain. The next morning, Diaz dragged himself to Django's well with the last of his strength, only to realize that it wasn't a real one. Completely exhausted, he collapses and is then shot by Django.
Django challenges the player Montero to poker in a large saloon and defeats him in the first round. Montero - surprised to have been defeated for the first time and to have lost all his money - demands revenge. Django and Montero split up so Montero can organize new money to play with. In the second round of poker, Montero loses again. Django challenges him to play for his life: the one with the better "hand" shoots the other. Django wins and shoots Montero.
The domineering and brutal brother Baldwin has villagers executed at will and justifies his crimes by claiming it is God's will. Django provokes him and is immediately arrested by Baldwin's henchmen. After the sanctimonious brother Django shoots a bullet in the leg and lets him stew in the desert, Django removes the bullet from his leg and kills Baldwin with that bullet.
Crazy albino O'Hara holds a small town in suspense and is obsessed with gold and blonde women. Django piques his interest by setting up a bank with alleged gold reserves in the city. O'Hara can actually be lured, but is able to flee again after an exchange of fire. Django then lures him with a beautiful blonde woman with whom he hides in a dark cemetery. O'Hara cannot resist his obsession and a new confrontation ensues, for which he ultimately pays with his life.
Django leaves the woman behind and at the end rides alone through the desert towards an uncertain future.
Remarks
This spaghetti western is mainly characterized by its episodic character; a quality that is very untypical for the genre. The murder of the four people responsible for the death of Django's brother is shown in four clearly defined parts. In each episode, the avenger plays with his victim, puts him under increasing psychological pressure, skillfully exploits his weaknesses and finally kills him.
Another extraordinary feature is O'Hara, played by Tomás Milián , an albino who is dressed completely in white, has white hair and wears black sunglasses to protect his eyes from the sun.
The movie song The last Game is interpreted by Nevil Cameron ; Yes, Sir from Lilian Terry and I Cantori Moderni .
Reviews
"Extremely tough and extraordinarily innovative revenge western by Mario Lanfranchi, on which the opinions differ - one friend is the other enemy."
"Italo-western, in the design a little more careful than usual, without aloof in the description of brutalities and inhuman revenge."
"Monotonous and tough spaghetti westerns, played and staged in an amateurish way and therefore involuntarily funny in many scenes."
