Dancing on the Ceiling is a song by Lionel Richie , Carlos Rios and Michael Frenchik from 1986, which was initially interpreted by Richie. The original version was produced by Richie in collaboration with James Anthony Carmichael.

Dancing on the Ceiling was released in June 1986. The song is 4:21 minutes long and was released as the second single from the album of the same name . On the B-side is Love Will Find A Way .

Music video

The music video was directed by Stanley Donen , who also directed the film Royal Wedding . Parts of the video were created freely after the film. Comedians Rodney Dangerfield and Cheech Marin made a cameo in the clip . There is also a reference to the film The Itchy Seventh Year , when a woman's skirt is blown up over her head in the video. In the plot of the video, Lionel Richie goes to a party with some friends. They celebrate exuberantly, run up the walls and finally dance on the ceiling. Donen later said that Richie got used to the rotating room used in the video faster than the actor and dancer Fred Astaire in the film Royal Wedding .

In Norway the song became the number 1 hit, in Sweden it reached number 3, in Switzerland number 6, in New Zealand number 7 and in the Netherlands number 8.
