Daniel Bacquelaine (born October 30, 1952 in Liège ) is a Belgian doctor and politician of the Mouvement Réformateur (MR). He has been a long-standing member of the Chamber of Deputies and is currently the current pension minister in the Wilmès government . At the local level, Bacquelaine has been Mayor of Chaudfontaine since 1992 .

Life

Daniel Bacquelaine received his doctorate in medicine and initially worked as a general practitioner in Chaudfontaine. He later specialized in mesotherapy and chaired the international mesotherapy society from 1996 to 2003.

His political career began in 1982 as a simple member of the Chaudfontaine parish council. Ten years later he was able to achieve the office of mayor of the city, while Jean Gol (PRL) became the financial alderman at his side. Bacquelaine has been Mayor of Chaudfontaine since 1992.

When Jean Gol moved to the European Parliament in 1994 , Daniel Bacquelaine replaced him in the Chamber of Deputies and in the Walloon Parliament . From 1995 he ran exclusively for the Chamber of Deputies, where he held the chairmanship of the MR parliamentary group for several years.

Within the MR, Bacquelaine applied as party president in 2011, but lost to competitor Charles Michel (MR) with around 46% of the vote .

When, after the federal elections on May 25, 2014, MR became the only French-speaking party to join the federal government under Prime Minister Charles Michel, Daniel Bacquelaine took over the post of Minister for Pensions.
