Life
Denis Ducarme is the eldest son of the former Prime Minister of the Brussels Capital Region , Daniel Ducarme (MR). He studied Political Science and International and European Relations at the Université Libre de Bruxelles (ULB).
Ducarme entered politics in 2000, when he was elected to both the Provincial Council of Hainaut and the Local Council of Thuin. In Thuin he became aldermen for public works, economics, employment and sport in the same year. In December 2003, however, after disagreements within the majority, he submitted his resignation.
Ducarme was elected to the federal Chamber of Deputies in 2003, where he dealt with Belgian defense, security and immigration policy. He was particularly committed to the fight against Islamism and was one of the authors of a law introducing the ban on wearing clothes in public that completely or largely obscure the face (ban on veiling ). From 2014 he was parliamentary group leader of the MR in the chamber.
In June 2017, the cdH withdrew its confidence in the ruling PS- cdH coalition at the level of the Walloon Region and then operated a constructive vote of no confidence with MR to form a new MR-cdH government (“ blue orange ”). When Willy Borsus (MR) became the new Prime Minister, Ducarme left his ministerial office in the federal government.
At the local level, Ducarme has been a member of the Public Welfare Council in Momignies since 2006 .
