Daniel Frei (political scientist)

Daniel Frei (born October 29, 1940 in St. Gallen ; † August 1, 1988 in Zurich ) was a Swiss political scientist .

Studied history at the University of Zurich and graduated in 1964. Afterwards further studies at the London School of Economics and at the Institut universitaire de hautes études internationales in Geneva, 1968 habilitation at the University of Zurich. There in 1971 Frei became professor of political science “with special consideration of international relations”.

Frei carried out research "on security policy and East-West relations" and thereby "played a key role in the development of political science in Switzerland".

"From the mid-1970s he was considered the most prominent German-Swiss representative of his subject."

From 1986 Frei was a member of the ICRC .
