Daniel Jan Bijleveld (born April 5, 1791 in Gorinchem , † February 4, 1885 in The Hague ) was a Dutch lawyer and politician .

life and work

Bijleveld was a son of the lawyer and later President of the Hoog Gerechtshof der Verenigde Nederlanden Casparus Bijleveld and his wife Elisabeth Maria van Swieten. Bijleveld himself married Maria Adriana Wilhelmina Elisabeth Pauw on September 24, 1828. From this marriage there were eleven children, one of whom died early. Daniel Jan Bijleveld was the grandfather of the liberal politician and entrepreneur Maarten Bijleveld .

After studying law , he initially worked as a lawyer. His legal career began in 1813. After holding various offices in The Hague District Court, he became President of the local court. From this position he was appointed as a member of the parish council. From 1840 to 1861 he was a member of the Provinciale Staten , the parliament of the province of South Holland . In 1863 his 50th anniversary as a civil servant was celebrated. It was not until 1875 that he left the service for health and age reasons.
