Daniel James Leach (born January 5, 1986 in Redcliffe ) is a former Australian football player .

Career

Daniel Leach trained at the Queensland Academy of Sport from 2000 to 2003 and was invited to training camps for the Australian U-17 team in 2002, but contrary to original plans, he did not belong to his QAS teammates Tim Smits , Ben Griffin , Mario Aparicio and Dane Richardson for the U-17 squad at the 2002 World Cup qualifier. In 2004 he played for North Star in the Brisbane Premier League before he worked for 18 months in London after graduating from high school . There he found out about Oregon State University's soccer program through a friend from Canada and successfully applied for admission. He majored in psychology and minor in communication at OSU, and in four years had 54 appearances (2 goals) in the Pacific-10 Conference for the university's soccer team, the Oregon State Beavers . In 2009 he played for the Portland Timbers U23's , the reserve team of the Portland Timbers, a few games in the USL PDL , before he was invited to a trial training session at the English fourth division club FC Barnet in the summer of 2009 because of a YouTube video .

After a convincing performance in a test match against Arsenal , Leach, who also has a British passport, received his first professional contract at the age of 23 and made 13 league appearances in central defense as a supplementary player. In February and March 2010, he also gained playing experience in the Conference South at Dover Athletic . His contract, which expired in the summer of 2010, was initially not extended by the club, but he convinced the new Barnet coach Mark Stimson in the preparation for the season and received a new contract at the end of July. At the beginning of the 2010/11 season as a left-back and then in central defense, he was seriously injured in September 2010 and only returned to the team in April 2011. Leach ended his professional career in early 2012 due to injury.
