Sir Daniel Charles Williams GCMG (born November 4, 1935 in Grenada ) is a Grenadian politician and statesman . He was Governor General of Grenada from August 9, 1996 to November 18, 2008 . Williams was officially promoted to office by Queen Elizabeth II on August 9, 1996 , after being previously nominated by the Grenadian Prime Minister Keith Claudius Mitchell .

Life

From 1952 Williams worked as a teacher in Grenada, and later until 1959 as deputy school director. He then worked as a machine operator from 1959 to 1960, then as a British civil servant in London until 1964 . From 1965 he studied law at the University of London and graduated in 1967 with a Bachelor of Laws . 1968 received the barrister-at-law certificate from Lincoln's Inn and completed the training as "Counsel of Legal Education". In 1969 he went back to Grenada, where he started as a civil lawyer. From 1970 to 1974 he was a judge in St. Lucia , and then worked as a private lawyer until 1984.

From 1984 to 1987 he was Minister for Health, Housing and Environment and Minister for Social Affairs and Women, and from 1988 to 1989 Minister of Justice in the Grenadian Parliament. Then Williams worked again as a private lawyer until 1995. In 1996 he became the royal British Attorney bestallt .

Sir Daniel Charles Williams published writings in particular on the Grenadian legal system. He is married and has four adult children.
