Daniela Musiol (born September 8, 1970 in Mödling ) is an Austrian politician ( GREEN ). From 2008 to 2016 she was a member of the Austrian National Council .

Daniela Musiol was born in Vienna and grew up in the Meidling district , where she attended elementary school and grammar school. In 1988 she founded the Independent List together with other students, based on the student strike in 1987 , which she represented in the Vienna State Student Council in 1988/89. After finishing school in 1989, she spent six months in Philadelphia as an au pair . Then the training was followed by the certified social worker at the Academy for Social Work 1990-1993 and the Law studies at the Law Faculty of the University of Vienna , which Musiol in 2000 with the graduation graduated to Master of Law (Mag. Iur.). From 1989 to 1990 she also briefly studied sociology at the University of Vienna.

Professional background

Daniela Musiol worked from 1990 to 1993 at the emergency shelter of the probation service in Vienna and from 1995 to 1996 at the tenants' association. From 1996 she was employed full-time as a social worker at the Office for Family and Youth of the City of Vienna and also worked as a mediator . In 1998 she switched to the intervention center against violence in the family as a social worker. After the completion of legal studies Daniela Musiol completed in 2000/2001, the court practice and was Associate before 2001 as a club director of green clubs in the Vienna City Council and state purchases.

Political activity

Musiol was a delegate to the Federal Green Congress in 2005. With the National Council election in 2008 , she moved to the National Council as a member of the Greens . There she was sworn in for the first time on October 28, 2008 and acted as family, constitutional and democratic spokeswoman for the Greens.

As a politician, she placed a focus on family policy in the area of ​​elementary education and recognition of crèches and nurseries as the first non-family educational institution. In 2012 she discussed religious education in schools in the media .

Her democratic political focus lay in the further development of democracy, in particular direct democracy. In June 2013 she negotiated a law for the further development of direct democracy with the club leaders of the SPÖ (Josef Cap) and ÖVP (Karlheinz Kopf), which, however, was not implemented due to the upcoming elections in autumn 2013.

In 2016, Musiol announced that, after 15 years in politics, he would resign from her post as a member of the National Council in spring 2016 and withdraw into the private sector. Her successor was the former Green social spokesman Karl Öllinger in the National Council meeting on April 28, 2016 .

Private life

Musiol was born as the second daughter of a parish clerk and an electrician and grew up in Vienna-Meidling. In 1993 their son was born. She lives in Vienna with her partner.
