from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Daniele Varè (born January 12, 1880 in Rome , † February 27, 1956 there) was an Italian diplomat and writer.

Act

Varè worked in the diplomatic service in China in the 1920s and 1930s , where he a. a. also represented his country's economic interests.

His interest in Chinese history and culture, along with his own experiences and impressions, later formed the basis for his works The Temple of Precious Wisdom , The Tailor of Heavenly Pants and The Gate of the Happy Sparrows . With these three novels Varè became known all over Europe.

With his later works he could not repeat this success and is almost forgotten today. He published many of his works in English.

In his memory book Daniele in the Diplomatic Mine, Varè describes his active service as Italian envoy in various countries, initially experiences in his youth until he entered the diplomatic service.

Life

After the early death of his father, he lived with his mother in England for four years with their relatives before he returned to Rome at the age of eleven. At the age of 52, he and other colleagues were released into retirement by the Mussolini government . However, he kept in touch with the regime, had close personal ties with the Italian Foreign Minister Galeazzo Ciano and traveled extensively to support Italian politics.

His dream was to acquire colonies in Africa for the “Italian people without space” to settle Italian colonists who would bring civilization there. Accordingly, he welcomed and supported the conquest of Abyssinia by Italy. He also welcomed Italy's support of the fascists in the Spanish Civil War as a fight against communism .
