Danny Barber (musician)

Daniel Peter "Danny" Barber (born October 18, 1953 ; † July 11, 2019 ) was an American jazz musician ( trumpet , flugelhorn ).

Barber was the fourth of six children. He spent the first five years of his life in Clinton with his three older sisters; In 1959 the family moved to South Bend, Indiana, where his father found employment with the Bendix Corporation. Danny's father was also a local trumpeter; at the age of 10, Danny began taking lessons from his father and became a member of his father's band. He then played in the school band and had his first professional appearances in the local Eddie Knight Band at the age of 16; he also played in the family band, The Sounds of Brass .

Barber did his military service with the jazz ensemble of the US Army, The Jazz Ambassadors , where he worked until 1976. After his discharge from the army, he worked in the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra ( Ghost Band ), then with Maynard Ferguson , with whom he stayed from 1977 to 1979. In the field of jazz he was involved in 315 recording sessions between 1990 and 2012, mostly in big band productions, among others. a. with the Roger Pemberton Big Band, Bill Porter Orchestra, The Jazz Members Big Band of Chicago, Ed Vodicka & Friends, Buddy Childers Big Band, Frank Mantooth and with Clark Terry (with Jeff Lindberg & The Chicago Jazz Orchestra).
