Danny O'Brien (* 1969 ) is a British technology - journalist .

Life

He has written weekly columns for the Sunday Times and the Irish Times ; he previously wrote for The Guardian and acted as an advisor to the Guardian in developing their online strategy. He has worked for the UK edition of Wired and also for Channel 4 and the UK Internet service provider Virgin.net . Together with Dave Green he founded the now monthly newsletter Need To Know . Here he is still working as an author.

O'Brien is originally from London but now lives in San Francisco . In May 2005 he took over the role of “ Activist Coordinator” for the Electronic Frontier Foundation from Ren Bucholz . He also made a pledge at PledgeBank to help set up an organization "to coordinate a campaign for digital rights in the UK" which led to the creation of the Open Rights Group (ORG), a UK organization that campaigns takes care of the maintenance of data protection rights and similar topics in cyberspace.
