Dante Symphony
A symphony based on Dante's Divina Commedia - Dante Symphony or Dante Symphony for short - was composed by Franz Liszt . It is inspired by Dante Alighieri's verse epic Divina Commedia ( The Divine Comedy ) and premiered in 1857 .
structure
The work consists of two movements :
- inferno
- Purgatorio → Magnificat
Due to its programmatic reference, the Dante symphony can also be described as a symphonic poem with choir (only female and male voices).
