The Danxia Mountains or Danxia Shan (丹霞 山) is a mountain range in the south of Renhua County , which belongs to the district-free city of Shaoguan in the north of the Chinese province of Guangdong .

The mountain range is formed from red sandstone that has eroded into many unusual rock shapes over time. Famous are a Yangyuanshi -Felssäule that a phallus is similar, and a Yinyuanshi -Höhlung that a vulva resembles.

The highest of the three peaks is Baozhu Feng , the others are called Changlao and Hailuo . In the center of the area is the Xianglong Lake .

The Danxia Shan region is on the lists of Chinese state nature reserves , national parks and geoparks , and has also been a geopark of the UNESCO Global Network of National Geoparks since 2004 (since 2015 UNESCO Global Geopark ).
