The Darßer Brücke is a pure road bridge in the east of the Berlin district of Pankow . It leads Darßer Straße over Malchower Chaussee, which is a section of Bundesstraße 2 .

history

In the 1970s and early 1980s, GDR traffic specialists also began the so-called car-friendly redesign of the road system in Berlin on the basis of the Tangentiale Link Ost plan . The new development areas on the outskirts of Berlin, which were emerging at the same time, were to be connected to the city motorway via convenient access roads. In this context, the expansion of Malchower Chaussee to four lanes and a road connection from Hohenschönhausen via Weißensee to today's A 114 was planned. The first structure to be completed in the 1980s, now known as Darßer Bridge , could not be used because it had no road connection. Darßer Strasse, which was later rebuilt by expanding Hohenschönhauser Weg and backfilling soil, was connected to the bridge in 1992. Only now was traffic routing free of intersections. The street named after the Baltic peninsula Darß was also the namesake of the new bridge.

The reinforced concrete - girder bridge has a center support and two-sided abutment in the ground. With a length of 85 meters and a not fully developed width of 12.2 meters, it is oversized for today's use.

In the years up to 2006, the Berlin traffic authority had sealing measures, asphalt pavement renewal, concrete repairs, and redesign of the cycle paths and sidewalks carried out, which led to a complete renovation of the bridge. Executing companies were "BFS Ingenieurgesellschaft Berlin" and "Reaku-Hobein GmbH". At the same time, the streets around the bridge were completely redesigned.
