Dargaard is a neoclassical dark wave formation from Austria . Her music is classically inspired and created entirely with keyboards . On this basis Dargaard has released four albums so far.

history

Dargaard was founded in 1997 by Tharen. Until then, Tharen had played in various underground bands, including Abigor and Amestigon , both black metal bands, and Dominion III , an electronic project. He was keyboardist at Abigor, but the Amestigon, Dominion III and Dargaard projects are entirely under his leadership. Dargaard was born out of Tharen's desire to move away from Black Metal and express himself more through classical and ambient music.

Elisabeth Toriser later joined as a singer. She also worked as a singer with the bands Dominion III and Antichrisis . She left the latter due to musical differences. According to Tharen, Elisabeth Toriser is casually working on another project with acoustic guitars, which has not yet been published.

In October 1998, Dargaard recorded their debut album Eternity Rites at Hoernix Studios. Tharen composed the songs while Elisabeth wrote the lyrics. The album was released by the record company Napalm Records , where Tharen was already contractually bound by his previous band activities. This is also the reason why Dargaard did not release any demos . Eternity Rites has been very well received by metal and dark wave fans.

In August 1999, the band returned to the studio and began work on the second album, which was released on June 3, 2000 by Napalm Records under the title In Nomine Aeternitatis and which was again very popular. Dargaard then continued their musical journey and released the album Dissolution of Eternity in June 2001 . In March 2004 the last work Rise and Fall was published .

Dargaard is still active despite the release break. However, the band has so far not recorded any live performances. According to Tharen, extensive tours are also not completed due to personal concessions.

style

Tharen himself describes his music as “songs that exude a kind of beauty, but we always try to make them appear dark and powerful. The same goes for the lyrics of our songs. You are beyond my very own realm, and that realm is made up of dark forces, magic and mysteries, and even darkness has its own form of beauty ” .

He also said that he was inspired by the feelings he experienced while reading. Terry Goodkind's "Sword of Truth" (in the original "Sword of Truth") should be mentioned here, along with a number of other books ("Fuer Grissa est Drauka" on the album Eternity Rites is one of them), but also the Dragonlance - Fantasy world ("Dargaard" is the castle of the undead death knight Lord Soth, and the mistress Takhisis named in "Takhisis Dance" [on the album Rise and Fall ] is the evil goddess in Dragonlance ).
