Terry Goodkind (born May 1, 1948 in Omaha , Nebraska , † September 17, 2020 ) was an American fantasy author .

Life

Growing up in Nebraska, where he attended art school in his hometown of Omaha, Goodkind moved to Maine with his wife Jeri in 1983 . Before he started writing, he worked as a violin maker and restorer. In 1994 the first volume of his cycle The Sword of Truth was published , which made him internationally known.

The first concepts for his work came up during the construction of his own home in the Maine forests: “It all started with Kahlan and I made a wonderful discovery. As soon as I started writing, I knew I had found something to devote the rest of my life to. "

Goodkind described himself as a believer in objectivism .

Audio books

From 2007 onwards, audible published unabridged audio books on the Sword of Truth series, which, however, do not adhere to the English or the old German subdivision of the books. The first six original novels, which were divided into two in the German first edition, were each divided into three, and the last five, which were published in German undivided, were each divided into two. The first original novel (three parts) was spoken by Tobias Kluckert , from the fourth part Oliver Siebeck took over the role of speaker, who also spoke the undivided audio book Dunkles Omen .

TV series

Sam Raimi , the director of the Spider-Man films , has secured the film rights to the saga. Filming began in May 2008.

The first episode of the series Legend of the Seeker - The Sword of Truth was broadcast from November 1, 2008 on American television on Saturday evening. In the two seasons of the series, the first two books were summarized in 22 episodes of 45 minutes each, with the plot only being very roughly reminiscent of the books.

The main role of Richard was given to Craig Horner , that of Kahlan to Bridget Regan . Furthermore, Bruce Spence as Zedd, Jay Laga'aia as Chase and Craig Parker as Darken Rahl to see.

On April 26, 2010, ABC announced that the series had been discontinued.
