Legend of the Seeker - The Sword of Truth (Original title: Legend of the Seeker ) is an American fantasy series based on the first two novels in the series The Sword of Truth by Terry Goodkind .
action
The television series is based on the books by Terry Goodkind and takes place in the first season in the new world of the fantasy universe. This is divided into the regions Westlands, Midlands and D'Hara. Before the action began, the regions of Midlands and D'Hara were separated from the Westlands by a magical barrier, which means that there is no exchange between the individual regions.
After 23-year-old Richard Cypher, who lives in the heartland (within the Westlands), saved the life of Confessor Kahlan Amnell, whose gift it is to “walk” people, that is to say, to force their will by simply touching them, she tells him about one of them Prophecy that brought her to the Westlands in search of a great first order wizard. The hermit Zeddicus "Zedd" Zu'l Zorander, who is considered crazy, finally reveals himself to be the sought-after magician of the first order.
After Kahlan tells him about the prophecy, Zedd appoints Richard the Seeker and hands him the Sword of Truth. So begins the fight against Darken Rahl to protect the world from his greed for power. But even after his death, Rahl serves the guardian of the underworld, the bitter opponent of the “creator” of all life, who is worshiped as a goddess.
Richard, Kahlan and Zedd have to face many opponents, for example the D'Harans, the sisters of darkness who are difficult to distinguish from the sisters of light, the Mord-Sith, magically gifted women with powerful instruments of torture called punishers in the service of Rahl, and the Banelings, undead, who offer Rahl in exchange for a second life to murder once for every day they are alive. The Guardian becomes more and more powerful through the souls of the deceased.
During the first season Richard gets to know his younger half-sister Jennsen - who has the magical insensitivity, i.e. is completely resistant to magical influences, and therefore cannot use magic herself. He learns that Jennsen's mother is also his own and that Jennsen is also Zedd's granddaughter. In the second season Richard learns that Panis Rahl was his father and therefore Darken Rahl is his half-brother.
Later the Mord-Sith Cara joins her squad. Like any Mord Sith, she can bring the dead back to life if they have not died long. She wants to protect Richard and help him find the stone of tears. With this stone Richard wants to close the gap between the underworld and the world of the living through which the Banelings and other servants of the Guardian come.
But the four of them also have to struggle with private problems again and again: After a few months, Kahlan is the last Confessor in the world and thus at the same time the new mother Confessor. Her sister Dennee also lost her life in the fight and Annabelle, a girl with Confessional powers, prefers a normal life and therefore gives it up. Kahlan also meets her father again, who fears her and her sister because of their strength, hates them and badly abused them as children because they had been kept in slavery by their mother for years. Only with their death was the spell lifted. Meanwhile, Kahlan has fallen in love with Richard, who reciprocates her feelings. But she does not want to change him and therefore stays away from him.
Richard learns that he is just like Zedd a wizard and should face his magical powers. Since he would have to learn to control his magic for a long time in the palace of the sisters of light and the time in the palace also passes so slowly through magic that a day there lasts 10 days in the world, he instead gives it to one of the sisters, Nike, who is in the Keeper's service, which he already knows at this point. However, Richard tricks her so that Nike cannot use his power because of the rhadahan (an enchanted collar that suppresses the magical powers of its wearer), which sister Verna puts on her.
Cara often has to struggle with a guilty conscience, as she not only killed Dennee, but also her own father, which is her undoing when she meets her sister. The long training of the Mord-Sith also made it difficult for her to show feelings or mercy. However, she falls in love with Leo, the newly appointed Seeker. He will represent Richard while he is in the custody of the Sisters of Light. He also falls in love with Cara and the two spend a night together. When he gives her a flower to show that he loves her, Cara hurts her lover by claiming that this night means nothing. Finally she takes the courage to tell him about her feelings, but he dies in the fight. When he was burned, she was very sad and depressed. To say goodbye, she lays the flower that he gave her as a token of his love to him - with the words "You are important to me". She is always loyal to Richard, Zedd and Kahlan - so much so that when she dies in battle, she even accepts Rahl's deal and becomes a baneling, which can later be reversed.
In the season finale of the second season, which is also the series finale, Richard, Kahlan, Zedd and Cara manage to close the veil on the underworld with the help of the stone of tears.

Changes from the book
When comparing it with the book, it becomes clear that Legend of the Seeker is not a film adaptation of Sword of Truth , but is only based on the book. Many characters from the book do not appear in the television series or are only briefly mentioned. Most of the stories from the television series do not come from the book but were developed by the creators of the television series. Also, many of the events described in detail in the book (such as the memorization of the book of the numbered shadows or the murder of Richard's stepfather by Darken Rahl) have been greatly modified or removed in the TV series, so that the story takes a different path from the book.
