As intestinal parasite is called the infection of the intestinal tract by parasites like worms (s. Worm disease ) or protozoa (certain flagellates and amoebae ). These parasites typically enter the intestinal tract through smear infection (as intestinal parasites ), where they can then survive for a long time in some cases. This often results in unspecific symptoms up to severe diarrheal diseases (such as Entamoeba histolytica ).
root cause
The cause in humans (human pathogens) are protozoa of the intestine as Giardia intestinalis , Dientamoeba fragilis, Entamoeba histolytica , Entamoeba coli, Endolimaxana, Blastoystis hominis, Cryptosporidium , Cyclospora, Sarcocystis and Isospora belli, or worms (called intestinal worms or Enthelminten; most flatworms or tube worms ) affecting the intestines, e.g. B. Schistosoma mansoni , S. haematobium , Fasciola hepatica , Fasciolopsis buski , Dicrocoelium dendriticum , Clonorchis, Dipyllobothrium latum, Taenia , roundworm and whipworm .
Emergence
The main source of infection is through the mouth due to poor hygiene. This includes unwashed fruit or undercooked food. Washing hands with soap before eating should be a matter of course. But some of the above-mentioned pathogens can also enter the body through the skin when bathing in contaminated water or walking barefoot across the ground.
Clinical manifestations
The clinical appearance is often unspecific, common symptoms are abdominal pain , burning sensation when urinating, chronic fatigue, diarrhea , nausea , night sweats, muscle cramps, itching (especially in the anal and pubic area), weakness, muscle and joint pain .
treatment
Before each treatment, it is necessary to determine the pathogen. The therapy depends specifically on the pathogen.
