Darnell is an English personal name. It has been attested as a family name since the 11th century, more recently it has also been given as a (predominantly male) first name. Its origin is not known for sure. Maybe it comes from the Old French darnel as a term of noise grass from. Another theory sees in Darnell the combination of the old English words derne (German: “hidden”, “hidden”) and halh (German: “hiding place”).
