Bruce Darnell (born July 19, 1957 in Colorado ) is an American choreographer and model . He lives and works in Germany and was best known as a jury member for the television programs Germany's Next Topmodel and Das Supertalent .

Career

Bruce Darnell grew up in Colorado with nine siblings. He describes his childhood as difficult because he was the only child of his father's birth who was tormented by the family. After school he enlisted in the US Army in 1974 , where he served six years as a paratrooper with the 82nd Airborne Division in Fort Bragg , North Carolina . In the army he received a scholarship and studied sociology for two and a half years . After leaving the military, Darnell went to Germany , where his stepfather had been stationed as a professional soldier in Augsburg during Darnell's childhood . In Munich he worked as a waiter in discos for six years . Here he was approached and invited to a model casting.

In 1983 he started his career as a model in Munich and later continued it in Cologne . In the following years he was on the catwalk for Kenzo , Issey Miyake and Hermès at fashion shows in Paris , Milan , Tokyo and New York. Since 1990 Darnell has been working as a choreographer and training models for the catwalk.

In 2006 Darnell became known as a juror on the ProSieben television show Germany's Next Top Model . His occasional effeminate demeanor and characteristic American accent contributed to his popularity . Darnell used his popularity to sign advertising deals for C&A and the wireless operator Fonic . In early October 2007 it was announced that ProSieben had not signed Darnell for another season of the show. The television station MTV hired Darnell in September 2007 for a guest appearance on the program MTV Designerama .

From February to March 2008, he hosted the first daily coaching -Show Bruce . With a market share of 6.4 percent among 14 to 49 year olds, this did not do justice to the expectation of strengthening the traditionally weak broadcasting slot at 6:55 p.m. and was discontinued after the first season (20 episodes) was broadcast. In February 2008 he published his book Drama, Baby, Drama! How you become what you are that made your way on the Focus bestseller list. In addition to styling tips, the book is also about how to find yourself. In March 2008 the book was also published as an audio book.

After Darnell canceled his participation as a juror in the first season of Das Supertalent due to scheduling difficulties , the music producer Dieter Bohlen expressed the wish to cast Darnell as a juror for the fifth season of the RTL casting show Deutschland sucht den Superstar , which was rejected by the broadcaster. From 2008 to 2010 Darnell was a member of the jury for Das Supertalent . In addition, Darnell was seen again as a catwalk trainer in the show Supermodel 2008 on the Swiss broadcaster 3+ TV . In October 2009 his first fragrance Bruce for men and Darnell for women was released. In September 2011 he was appointed to the jury of Deutschland sucht den Superstar 2012 together with Natalie Horler . Since 2013 Darnell has been on the jury for Das Supertalent again . He also advertises the furniture association Einrichtungspartnerring VME .
