history

Fonic - since May 2015 a brand of Telefónica Germany GmbH & Co. OHG

Fonic was the first mobile communications company to fall below the price limit of 10 cents per minute at 9.9 cents per minute in September 2007. From 2007 to 2012, choreographer and model Bruce Darnell was the face of the brand. Since 2012, Fonic has been promoting the “man who always tells the truth”. The Fonic brand by Fonic GmbH was sold online until April 2015 and through retail outlets across Germany at over 20,000 sales outlets - including Saturn , Mediamarkt , dm-drogerie markt , Real , Rossmann and Müller . Several web shops were integrated via the company's own website and took over sales.

In 2012, Fonic was one of the best-known German mobile phone discounters with 2.4 million customers at the time .

At the end of June 2015, Telefónica announced that all customers with the exception of Lidl Mobile customers will be migrated to Telefónica Germany GmbH & Co. OHG on July 1, 2015 and that Fonic will be retained as a brand. New customers have already been provided with contracts via Telefónica Germany GmbH & Co. OHG since May 2015.

Fonic Mobile - since April 2016 a brand of Telefónica Germany GmbH & Co. OHG

On July 13, 2010, Lidl started marketing tariffs under its own brand Lidl Mobile and at the same time removed Fonic from its range. However, the brand will continue to be provided and operated by Fonic GmbH. At the start the tariffs were largely identical to Fonic. There are now some differences in the tariff structure. At the end of September 2015, Lidl announced that its Lidl Mobile offer would be renamed Fonic Mobile from October 1, 2015 and that there would be a completely new offer under the Lidl Connect brand (in cooperation with Vodafone ). Since October 1st, SIM cards have only been available online at www.fonic-mobile.de, but customers still have the option of purchasing appropriate prepaid cards in Lidl branches.

At the end of March 2016, Fonic Mobile informed its customers via SMS that Fonic GmbH was being transferred to Telefónica Germany GmbH on April 1, 2016.
