Lotta in Love is the seventh telenovela on German television and was broadcast on ProSieben's evening program from March 27, 2006 to July 11, 2006, Monday to Friday . Since the ratings of the series fell far short of the station's expectations, the show was removed from the evening program. From July 16, 2006 to September 10, 2006 it was broadcast in double episodes on Sunday mornings and without a fixed airtime - then on the same broadcasting slot since September 17, 2006, but only in individual episodes and since the beginning of 2007 only irregularly weekly or 14- Every day. In addition, the broadcast time was shifted further and further into the early morning. In the end, the program ran at around 5 a.m.

On July 7, 2009, VIVA began repeating all episodes of Lotta in Love ; from Monday to Friday at 8 p.m. From October 5, 2009, Lotta in Love was broadcast Monday through Friday at 4 p.m. With the 99th episode, VIVA prematurely ended the broadcast of the telenovela on November 20, 2009.

The series was produced by Rat Pack Filmproduktion in Bavaria Studios in Grünwald .

action

Carlotta "Lotta" Wiesner is the daughter of a laundry owner in Munich. In the pilot episode, she wins two backstage tickets for a concert by pop singer Alex Weidenstein. There she tries out their costume for fun. Everyone confuses her with Alex and sends her on stage. There she is kissed by the guitarist Michael, Alex's friend.

Due to Alex's weakness and the amazing resemblance to her, Lotta is engaged to double her. She accepts this offer because she has fallen in love with Michael. Over the course of the series, Lotta steadily gains self-confidence and develops an interest in the music industry after the doubling was publicly exposed. Eventually she finds out that she and Alex are twin sisters. With the help of her sister, Lotta overcomes her stage fright, becomes a successful singer and meets Michael.

background

  • Originally, Lotta was to be played by the actress and singer Anna (who contributed the theme song 'Desert Rose' to the film Das Jesus Video ). At the last second, however, the broadcaster decided on the rather inexperienced Janin Reinhardt , who was supposed to attract audiences through her fame.
  • As a cross promotion for the new telenovela, the series character Alex had a crossover appearance in the week before the series start over three episodes of the telenovela Verliebt in Berlin of the partner station Sat.1 : She has a coat made as a stage outfit for "Kerima Moda" . This coat plays a central role in the first episodes of Lotta in Love , and the fictional brand “Kerima Moda” is mentioned several times (obviously to appeal to fans of Verliebt in Berlin ).
  • The then ProSieben boss Andreas Bartel described it as a “soap with a premium look”. At first glance, Janin Reinhardt would "embody" ProSieben and would have the "potential to become an important face for the station".
  • The series took over the first of two consecutive slots between 6 p.m. and 7 p.m., on which the old episodes of the American cartoon series The Simpsons had long been broadcast. This led in advance to numerous protests on the Internet among the large fan base of this series. Due to the failure of the telenovela, The Simpsons returned to the daily program three months later and have since become the practically undisputed figurehead of ProSieben.
  • Audience response: On average, 0.68 million tuned into the series at 6 p.m. The numbers in the first week were 0.83 million (4.73% market share from 3 years), after two weeks only 0.49 million (3.1% market share from 3 years). The pilot episode had the most viewers with 0.98 million (5.6% market share from 3 years). The audience shares of the competing show " Verbotene Liebe " ( ARD ), on the other hand, reached a market share of 15% in the audience age of 3 and over, from which ProSieben wanted to persuade viewers.
  • Due to a weak lead-in and refusal of viewers, the show generated weaker ratings in subsequent programs, which meant that The Simpsons could only achieve single-digit ratings at times.
  • In April 2006, the Sunday reruns were moved from 10 a.m. to 7 a.m. due to miserable audience ratings.
  • After appearances by artists or celebrities such as Bruce Darnell or Patrick Nuo, which were put in at short notice due to the weak quotas, only brought improvement for a short time, the scripts were changed several times and tried unsuccessfully to achieve better quotas.
  • In May 2006, due to the miserable audience ratings, the concept was changed and an attempt was made to make the main character Lotta more “cheeky”.
  • In June 2006, the Sunday repetitions were removed from the program.
  • From the end of June 2006 a new figure was added, which was intended to attract mainly male viewers. This role was called the “scheming femme fatale who only knows one direction: all the way up! There is no lipstick too red for her, no blouse too tight and no skirt too mini " , so" ProSieben "in the description.
  • Because of the bad ratings, the program was only broadcast on Sundays from July 2006, initially at 10 a.m., later at around 6 a.m. and towards the end of the telenovela at 4:55 a.m. In addition, the series was shortened; instead of the planned 200 there were only 130 episodes. The last episode aired on August 12, 2007 at 5:50 am.
  • The industry service DWDL.de counted the series among the "biggest TV flops of 2006".
