Life

As the son of the mystic Kirpal Singh (1894–1974), Darshan Singh grew up in an environment characterized by spirituality. He recognized early on a connection between spirituality and its analogies in science and technology. He embarked on a career in administration and most recently reached the position of Deputy State Secretary.

During his fifteen years of spiritual ministry after his father's death, Darshan Singh emphasized the importance of spirituality in modern life. He coined the term “positive mysticism” and encouraged people to live up to their responsibilities to family and society, while at the same time living the spiritual aspect of life through inner contemplation and personal development.

He was married to the trained singer Harbhajan Kaur and had at least two sons. At Kirpal's request, Darshan's older son Rajinder studied electrical engineering in the 1960s and then worked as an engineer in the USA, from where he planned Kirpal and Darshan's world tours. In 1978 Darshan founded the organization Science of Spirituality , which was represented by his son Rajinder in the USA. According to his son's plans, Darshan Singh traveled to the West four times: 1978, 1983, 1986 and 1988. He spoke a.o. a. at lectures in the Stuttgarter Liederhalle and in the Gustav-Siegle-Haus as well as in the congress hall of the Deutsches Museum in Munich. Under his leadership, 550 meditation centers were founded in over forty countries.

His teachings were spread through lectures, seminars, books, and especially through his mystical poetry. Darshan Singh, known as the Indian poet saint, has received four awards from the Urdu Academy for his poetry. His books have been translated into over fifty languages.

When the Indian government issued a compendium of mystical literature, the anthology included many works by Darshan Singh. His poems, which have been set to music by various artists, are often broadcast on radio and television.

In his will of November 17, 1987, he named his son Rajinder Singh as his successor as head of the Science of Spirituality Organization .
