The other museum of local history

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Other Local History Museum was founded in 1996 in Lind Castle , in Sankt Marein near Neumarkt in Austria . It is dedicated to recent contemporary history and aims to present repressed aspects of Austrian identity . Among other things, the exhibitions contain a memorial for the external concentration camp housed in the castle . Like the one in the St. Lambrecht Abbey, the satellite camp was administered by SS-Obersturmbannführer Hubert Erhart and was initially subordinate to the Dachau concentration camp and from November 20, 1942 to the Mauthausen concentration camp . The museum was initiated by the artist Aramis , who has lived in the castle in need of restoration since 1994, and shows his art installations there in connection with the exhibition concept. In the summer months there are also special exhibitions, for example in 2006 on the subject of "Alpine Identities - Love in a Cold Land II".

Naming and exhibition concept

The Other Local History Museum does not tell nostalgic or romantically transfigured stories of country life, but rather shows, quote: The downside at home with the brown spots in yesterday's snow . The museum deals with the life of the poor, maids and servants, the immature a held. The presentation largely dispenses with fashionable, architecturally excessive elements. The historical objects are not isolated in concrete, steel or glass constructions, but are exposed to the viewer without protection. The castle, which has been falling into disrepair since the end of the war, provides the appropriate setting to allow the artistic concern to have an immediate effect on the visitor.

Position and boundaries

“Another museum of local history” also means a critical (differentiating) relationship to other current official views on the reception of home, such as B. Europe of the regions, regional identity, homeland advertising, nature park . Various forms of approximation are selected for this purpose. Special exhibitions with publications, theater, concerts, dance, readings, films and seminars complement the basic installation and reveal new aspects. Time and again, art is staged in the landscape and guided through so-called field stations such as stadiums , castle ruins and palaces.
