The paper was a national weekly newspaper that was published from February 1990 to February 1991 by Helfried Schreiter in East Berlin.
The weekly newspaper in black-white-red design was financed by the SED-PDS . There was a spirit of optimism in the editorial team and workforce, the journalistic dictatorship from the GDR had been overcome and the focus was on Western topics and content, for example the Spiegel .
Reports about East German celebrities Lothar de Maizière , Gregor Gysi , but also Dean Reed , Jochen Kowalski , Jalda Rebling and advice articles (about the Arbeiter-Samariter-Bund ) filled the pages. But there was also gossip, such as about the Amber Room .
The makers tried to publish an oppositional view of the general enthusiasm for unity, for example with the "Black Sheet" - an issue specifically for October 3, 1990 - and with articles about the deployment of the West Berlin police against the squatters in East Berlin Mainzer Strasse . One tried to write and print in the direction of a third way .
After a few months it became apparent that the editorial concept did not work, the sales figures remained below expectations. Helfried Schreiter tried his hand at the paper for women and Super-Ossi and finally stopped the newspaper Das Blatt .
