The Jungle Book (orig. Mowgli's Brother’s ) is an American short film by Chuck Jones from 1976. It is about the first part of the Mowgli stories from Rudyard Kipling's The Jungle Book .

action

One night a wolf family in the Indian jungle meets a boy named Mowgli and the pack takes in the orphaned toddler. The secret ruler of the jungle is the dangerous tiger Shir Khan, who sees the growing human child as a competitor for power. When he asks the alpha wolf to hand over the child to her, she predicts that Mowgli would one day kill him.

This is how Mowgli matures in the pack to the point of manhood. Shir Khan succeeds in convincing some wolves in the pack that Mowgli is not suitable as a pack member. These wolves then want Mowgli to leave the pack. His best friends, the black panther Baghira and the bear Balu, advise Mowgli to arm himself with fire in order to be able to fight his enemies. Mowgli then steals a burning torch from the human village, with which he not only drives Shir Khan but also the renegade wolves to flight at the next pack meeting. Then he makes his way to the human village to live there with his own kind.

background

In contrast to the brightly colored Disney film adaptation , this film sticks exactly to the book, which is why it also looks a bit gloomy. Unlike the other versions of the film, however, Shir Khan is portrayed here as a white tiger , although this is not apparent from the book. The old ruined city where the monkeys live and the snake Kaa do not appear in the film.

The film distribution took over CBS in 1976. The film was on February 11, 1976 for the first time on television broadcast. Lions Gate Films Home Entertainment has held the DVD distribution rights since 2007 .
