After this seems to have been delayed and David assumes that he has been transferred, a lady waiting at the bar turns out to be his date. At first glance, she replies that he is not her type. David is frustrated, but his date senses that David is more interesting than previously thought. She sits down with him and they both eat together. In the course of the conversation, Celeste reveals her real name: Mia. The conversation becomes increasingly personal, with mainly David telling the story, and Mia getting more and more drunk. When David asks her what interesting things she could say about herself, she takes refuge in the bathroom and then out of the restaurant. David follows her outside, there is a kiss, which Mia rejects as a mistake. She gets into a taxi and drives a few meters while David tries to run away, cursing. In the last shot you can see the taxi stop and the door open. David gets in - the outcome remains uncertain.

Episode 2: Jenny and Nick

Jenny meets with a banker in a posh restaurant in the city . She is too late and when you leave the subway station you can see that she has no more money on her ticket. She meets Nick in the restaurant. They immediately like each other, they tell each other about previous relationships and Nick that he often cheated on his wife and that the relationship therefore fell apart. Jenny reveals herself to him with some strange habits, she drums on the table until Nick has to calm her down. Jenny goes to the toilet to freshen up, the lady next to her leaves her handbag on the sink and goes to the toilet again, during which Jenny steals a lipstick from her pocket and leaves the room where she meets Nick. They both kiss. They eat together and Nick also says goodbye briefly because of a call, according to him a business call. When he doesn't reappear at the table after a while, Jenny starts looking for him. She finds him in a toilet cubicle, he's having sex, he is probably receiving passive oral sex from the young waiter. Jenny doesn't reveal herself and doesn't show what she has seen for the rest of the meal. Nick notices that his wallet is missing and freaks out, suspecting the waiter. He wants to attack him but Jenny stops him. She pays and they both say goodbye. In the last scene, Jenny pulls Nick's wallet out of her pocket and lets it run over the ticket scanner. She gets on the subway with a smile.

Episode 3: Mia and Stephen

Mia meets a man in a very posh restaurant. Stephen is the chief surgeon and greets Mia again by the name Celeste. Suddenly Mia replies that they both know each other by saying that they had sex. Stephen is confused and denied. Mia talks about her past as an escort , but that she no longer does it. Stephen is visibly uncomfortable with the situation and he constantly apologizes to her, because he thinks his behavior towards her at the time was cheap. When Mia explains what the sex was like between the two, Stephen asks if it might not end the same way today. Mia smiles and hints at seducing him, but then takes this back. In the next scene they both have sex in an alley and then go to the pub . He tells her that he is dissatisfied with his job and that he chose it out of family desirability. Stephen suddenly gets a call from the hospital. To prove to Mia that it's not an excuse, he takes her with him. The local doctors feel uncomfortable at the sight of Mia's wide area and leave Stephen's claim that she is a doctor uncommented. Mia accompanies Stephen to various patients and she performs a procedure. Stephen follows Mia's actions with suspicion, but is visibly surprised that Mia has provided professional medical care. While Stephen picks up a call, Mia stays with the patient, who suddenly stops breathing. She eventually dies, and Mia and Stephen sit on a bench in front of the hospital to say goodbye. When Stephens said that he didn't know what to do with his job, Mia replied that he should just ask his heart.

Episode 4: Erica and Kate

Erica meets Kate in a hip London nightclub. The beginning of the conversation is very hesitant and tentative. After gently stroking Erica's arm, Kate asks if they should make themselves comfortable on the lower floor of the club. Erica says yes and they both go down to the bar lounge. After a little petting, they kiss. Kate asks Erica how serious she is about her homosexuality and whether she has ever slept with a woman. Thereupon Erica replies that she also had something with men that Kate visibly burdens. While the date threatens to end in an argument, Kate realizes that there is a connection between the two. Erica decides to stay and the conversation is cut off by the waiter when he brings them an expensive bottle of wine ordered by two men. Thereupon both go to the men at the table and get involved in a dance. The next scene takes place the next morning in Kate's bed. Erica gets calls from her brother all the time, and eventually tells Kate that she only dates men to make her family appear normal. Kate is angry and challenges Erica to stand by her feelings. This leads to a loud conflict. Erica screams loudly that she is gay and doesn't want to hide any longer, but the conversation was overheard by her brother after Erica forgot to hang up. The episode ends with Erica holding the phone to her ear and you can hear her brother screaming loudly that she can't be gay. The further outcome is uncertain.

David meets with Ellie near a mall. He immediately notices her young appearance and asks about her age, she replies that she is in her 30s. Both go to a youthful diner. David is a little irritated when the waiter sits down next to him and then orders what Ellie recommended. Suddenly a friend of Ellie's appears and asks what she's up to now that school is over. David is angry and confronts Ellie whereupon she confesses to him that she is only 19 years old. David is about to leave the restaurant when he is stopped by waiters who are singing a birthday song for him. He had already told Ellie at the beginning of the date that it was his birthday today. He decides to stay and they both have a very personal conversation. David tells her about Mia and how she hadn't called him anymore. When David goes to the bathroom, Ellie uses David's cell phone to write a message to Mia: go fuck yourself . Mia then calls, but David, who didn't know about the message, doesn't answer. Ellie thinks he's a coward and leaves the restaurant. There is a little argument between the two, which ends with David and Ellie showing up at Mia's door to give her the written message again verbatim. Mia, visibly aroused by David's appearance, invites him in and both immediately begin to kiss. The door slams and Ellie makes her way to the next bus by herself.

criticism

"'Dates' is a pleasant change from all couple and dating comedies that repeatedly drill through the age-old dichotomy between men and women."
