Gemma Chan (born November 29, 1982 in London ) is a British actress and model . She starred in Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit , starred on Humans, and a supporting role in Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them from 2016.

Life

Chan is the daughter of a Hong Kong engineer and a Chinese pharmacist. She grew up in Sevenoaks , Kent . Before studying acting at the Drama Center London , she studied law at Worcester College , Oxford .

In 2006 she was one of the participants in Project Catwalk , the British version of Project Runway , where she reached the finale of the first season. During her acting studies, she worked as a model for various campaigns for Nivea , Nokia and the Selfridges department store chain .

Her debut on television was the 2006 miniseries When Evil Calls , and she first appeared in theaters in the thriller Exam . In 2012 she appeared on stage for the first time in a production by Brecht's Turandot at the Hampstead Theater in London .

In September 2013, Chan appeared at the Central Criminal Court, the Old Bailey in London , as a witness to a fatal knife attack outside the Putney Bridge station.

Gemma Chan was in a relationship with British comedian and actor Jack Whitehall from 2011 to 2017 . In December 2018, Chan and British actor Dominic Cooper made their first appearance as a couple at the British Fashion Awards.
