Secret Diary of a Call Girl is a British television series that revolves around the private and business life of London call girl Belle (actually Hannah). In the main role, the former Doctor Who star Billie Piper can be seen as Belle de Jour , Piper also worked as an executive producer (managing director).

The series has four seasons. The template was the autobiographical blog Belle De Jour - Diary Of A London Call Girl , which was later published as a book.

action

Hannah pretends to work as a secretary in a law firm in London. In fact, she works as a call girl Belle. She strictly separates private and business matters so that not even her best friend Ben knows anything about it. The reason for her job as a call girl is her love for sex and money.

In the series, Hannah guides the viewer as a narrator through both her private and business life. Occasionally she addresses the viewer directly and looks directly into the camera.

production

The series was based on the autobiographical blog and the books based on it by Brooke Magnanti , aka Belle de Jour ( French for "beauty of the day"). Lead actress Piper was given the opportunity to talk to Magnanti himself as part of her preparation time for shooting, although the author's identity was only known to a handful at the time and was one of the best-kept secrets of the British literary scene.

Originally, the television series was to be produced for the British broadcaster Channel 4 . However, when this jumped off, ITV secured the rights. All four seasons were broadcast on ITV2. The first episode aired on September 27, 2007 in the UK. With the order for the fourth and final season, the end of the series was officially announced in June 2010. The last episode aired on March 22, 2011. IMG Media, Tiger Aspect Productions, Silver Apples Media and the Artist Rights Group were involved in the production of the series.

In addition to leading actress Billie Piper, Greg Brenman, Avril MacRory and Michael Foster were executive producers responsible for the financial planning of the film project. Producers were Jacquie Glanville ( Recovery ) and Elinor Day ( The Diary of Anne Frank ).
