action

The film is set in the Welsh Swansea and draws the portrait of 15-year-old Oliver Tate on the border to adulthood. The story combines illusion and knowledge, worldliness and childish innocence to heartbreak and a funny outcome.

Oliver thinks he's cool and a poetic genius. In reality, however, he is socially maladjusted and only moderately popular with his classmates. But he manages to win the heart of the same age Jordana. After having had two happy weeks with her, they lose their virginity together. The happiness of the two is, however, put to the test by problems on both sides in the parental home; Jordana's mother suffers from a brain tumor and could die in the foreseeable future, while Oliver's mother Jill intensifies her contact with her ex-boyfriend. This appears in front of an audience as a prism, says that he has supernatural abilities.

When he separates from his girlfriend, Oliver is firmly convinced that Jill is cheating on his father Lloyd. At the same time, an important operation was carried out on Jordana's mother, who could lose her life. The appointment before the operation, at which Jordana wishes Oliver to appear, falls on the same evening as an appearance by the Prism, to which Lloyd was invited.

Instead of spending the evening with their wives, the two men spend the evening together. At the same time, Oliver plans to poison Jordana's dog because the death of the pet is supposed to prepare for the pain of the possible death of the mother. This is no longer necessary, however, as the dog is run over by a train a short time later.

Based on the findings from the conversation with his father, Oliver forges a love letter from Lloyd to Jill, which is supposed to encourage her to have sex with Lloyd. Jill then flees the house to meet the Prism on the beach. Since it is New Year's Eve, the entire village is gathered on the beach, knowing that Oliver follows them. Once there, he sees the two of them running towards the car, but at the same time the begging gaze of Jordan. He decides to follow his mother and sees the two of them climb onto the back of a delivery truck. After throwing a bottle against the locked door, Oliver gets drunk and takes pills only to break into the Prism's apartment. There he urinates on his collection of cassettes and lights the duvet cover, then he hides under a blanket. The Prism believes his ex-girlfriend has raged, but when he finds Oliver, he brings him back to his parents.

When Oliver wakes up the next morning, he finds that his parents have talked about the cheating and are currently happy together. At the same time he receives a letter from Jordan, which breaks up with him and speaks of having a new one. Later, at school, Oliver makes a list of reasons not to kill himself. One was that if he were dead he would never see Jordana again. Because the note is torn from one of his classmates, Oliver is forced by the teacher to read it to the class. After a clarifying conversation with the teacher, Oliver also wants to speak to Jordana, but she refuses him. Afterwards, Jordana stops talking to him and spends her time with her new boyfriend. In the epilogue, Jordana and Oliver meet on the beach, where Oliver apologizes for what has happened. There Oliver also learns that Jordana's mother survived the operation. In the end they both run out to sea and laugh at each other.
