The Dattlio class is a ship class of the Italian Coast Guard . The class consists of two multi-purpose ships each over 90 meters long and about 3,600 tons displacing, the L. Dattilo (CP 940) and the U. Diciotti (CP 941) .
history
The two ships are a further development of the single ship Bruno Gregoretti (CP 920) commissioned at the end of 2009 . Compared to the Gregoretti , which is 62 meters long and displacing 2,150 tons , the new ships are slightly larger. They are currently the only two ships of the Italian Coast Guard that have a helipad . They each have four daughter boats that can reach up to 35 knots. There is a ramp at the stern that vehicles can use to get onto the working deck.
The ships are supposed to take on various tasks on the high seas, including sea rescue , environmental protection and migration control . In the event of a catastrophe, they are also intended to be used for operations management . Tasks of this kind have been carried out on the high seas to date by the Italian Navy with sea vessels, some of whose operating costs are significantly higher.
The two ships of the class were laid down at the Fincantieri shipyard in Castellammare di Stabia near Naples. The lead ship L. Dattilo was launched there on December 19, 2012 and was handed over to the coast guard on September 30, 2013. The callsign of L. Dattilo is IGUB. The U. Diciotti was launched on July 15, 2013 and was handed over on March 20, 2014. Her callsign is IHEW.
The two ships are named after former Coast Guard officers. In terms of name, the ships are the successors of two Saettia-class boats that were handed over to the Panamanian Coast Guard by 2014 . These are the Ubaldo Diciotti (CP 902) and the Luigi Dattilo (CP 903). The designation Diciotti class refers to improved boats of the Saettia type and not to the two ships of the Dattilo class.
