The Bruno Gregoretti (ID: CP 920) is a patrol and supply ship of the Italian coast guard .
history
On December 23, 2009, the Megaride shipyard in Naples received the construction contract for the single ship displacing more than 2,000 tons , which was launched on October 14, 2011 and put into service in 2014. It takes on tasks in the areas of sea rescue , fishery protection and supply.
The design was also the basis for two improved ships of the Dattilo class , the Luigi Dattilo (CP 940) and the Ubaldo Diciotti (CP 941). Unlike the Gregoretti, these have a helipad . The three ships are currently the largest of the Guardia Costiera .
The Bruno Gregoretti is the second coast guard ship with this name. From 1972 to 2008, the Bruno Gregoretti (CP 312), a sea rescue cruiser built at the Schweers shipyard and boatyard in Bardenfleth, was in service with the coast guard. Bruno Gregoretti was an officer in the Italian Coast Guard who fell off Pelješac in February 1943 .
In August 2019, then Interior Minister Matteo Salvini forbade the ship with 130 rescued shipwrecked people on board from entering the port of Augusta in order to put the European governments under pressure on the question of accepting refugees in solidarity. The migrants, some of whom were underage, had to endure on the ship under poor hygienic conditions. A court in Catania is therefore investigating for abuse of office and serious deprivation of liberty (Art. 605) against Salvini, whose immunity has been lifted.
