Dave Davis (athlete)

Dave Davis (born August 20, 1937 ) is a former American track and field athlete who appeared in the 1960s as a shot putter and a discus thrower .

He won two national championships in the shot put:

He was also successful in the Pan American Games.

1959 in Chicago he won bronze (17.01 m) in the shot put behind Parry O'Brien (gold with 19.04 m) and Dallas Long (silver with 18.51 m) (both USA )
In 1963 in São Paulo he won two medals:
- Gold in the shot put (18.52 m) in front of Billy Joe (USA; silver with 17.77 m) and the Argentinean Cosme Di Cursi (bronze with 16.26 m)
- Silver in the discus throw (51.03 m) behind Bob Humphries (USA; gold with 57.82 m) and in front of Ben Rebel Bout (Netherlands Antilles; bronze with 49.78 m)

In 1960 he was third in the eliminations for the Olympic Games in Rome , but had to cancel his participation due to injury.
