Life

Professional career

Dave Elman's interest in hypnosis came when he was 8 years old. A family friend treated his father, who was suffering from severe cancer-related pain, with hypnosis for the pain so effectively that he could play with the children. At the age of 14 he had already trained so far with the help of literature and observations from stage hypnotists that he hypnotized his classmates.

After leaving school, Elman worked as a composer, musician (saxophone and violin), comedian and show hypnotist. At that time he changed his surname Kopelman to Elman , because this fit better on posters and thus a better entry into show business seemed possible for him. He composed together with WC Handy , with whom he was friends, a. a. the hit "Atlanta Blues (Make Me One Pallet On Your Floor)". Her pieces were also played by Louis Armstrong . Dave Elman also worked as a radio host; he was particularly successful with his radio show Hobby Lobby on KDKA from 1937 to 1948 and wrote several books. In addition to his professional activity, Elman worked for the US spy service CIC from 1942 .

To avoid having to cancel a charity event, Elman stepped in in 1948 and held an impromptu hypnosis show. Doctors present asked him after the show to teach them what they had just seen. From then on, Elman devoted himself increasingly to hypnosis again, teaching thousands of doctors and dentists in medical hypnosis from 1949 and writing books on his induction method and the suggestions he developed .

family

In 1922 Elman met Pauline Reffe († 1989), whom he married in 1927. The couple had three children: Jabob (* 1928, † 1936), Robert (* 1930) and Larry (* 1938).

hypnosis

Elman's hypnosis introduction, known as "Dave Elman Induction", became known worldwide because this simple and at the same time efficient method allows the hypnotist to reach a somnambulistic state within a few minutes . From the medical hypnosis taught by Elman, his suggestions, for example on hypnotic analgesia and healing and integration , have also become known.
