Dave Smith (athlete)
Dave Smith (actually David Smith ; born June 21, 1962 in Kingston upon Hull ) is a former British hammer thrower .
In 1986 he won the Commonwealth Games in Edinburgh for England . At the European Athletics Championships in 1986 in Stuttgart, the World Athletics Championships in 1987 in Rome and the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul, he was eliminated from the qualification. In 1990 he won silver at the Commonwealth Games in Auckland .
He was five times English champion (1984-1988) and four times British champion (1984, 1985, 1987, 1988). He set his best performance of 77.30 m on July 13, 1985 in London .
His son Alexander Smith is also successful as a hammer thrower.
