David Keith Brookman, Baron Brookman (* 3. January 1937 ) is a British trade unionists , politicians of the Labor Party and Life Peer .

life and career

Brookman was born to George Henry Brookman and Blodwin Nash. He attended Nantyglo Grammar School in Monmouthshire . Brookman worked as a steel worker for Richard Thomas and Baldwin in Ebbw Vale from 1953 to 1973 , interrupted by his service in the Royal Air Force .

For the Iron and Steel Trades Confederation he was Division Head from 1973 to 1985, Assistant General Secretary from 1985 to 1993, and then Secretary General in 1999. Since 1993 he has been a member of the Board of British Steel and UK Steel Enterprise . From 1976 to 1982 Brookman was a member of the Trade Union Congress Educational Advisory Committee for Wales and from 1992 to 1999 the Trades Union Congress . He was also a member of the European Coal and Steel Committee and the International Metalworkers' Federation from 1992 to 2002 . He was also President of the Iron and Steel Non-Ferrous Department between 1992 and 1999 .

Brookman was a member of the Joint Industrial Council for Slag Industry and the British Steel Joint Accident Prevention Advisory Committee from 1985 to 1993. He was also a member of the British Steel Advisory Committee on Education and Training from 1986 to 1993 and on the Executive Council of European Metalworkers' Federation from 1985 to 1995. Since 1991 he has been a member of the National TU Steel Co-ordinating Committee and since 1993 its chairman. From 1993 to 2002 Brookman was a member of the European Coal and Steel Community Consultative Committee , from 1993 to 1998 joint secretary ( Joint Secretary ) of the British Steel Strip Trade Board and the British Steel Joint Standing Committee , and one of several secretaries ( Joint Secretary ) of the British Steel European Works Council from 1996 to 1999.

Brookman was Governor ( Governor ) of Gwent College of Higher Education from 1980 to 1984 and member of the Trustee ( Trustee ) of the Julian Melchett Trust from 1985 to 1995. Since 2001 he is President of the Welsh Trust for Prevention of Abuse .

Membership in the House of Lords

Brookman was on 30 July 1998 for life peer as Baron Brookman , of Ebbw Vale in the County of Gwent, appointed and sits for the Labor Party in the upper house. On November 3, 1998, the official introduction to the House of Lords took place with the support of Swraj Paul, Baron Paul and Garfield Davies, Baron Davies of Coity . He gave his inaugural address on December 1, 1998.

On the website of the House of Lords, he lists sport, labor law and production as his political interests.

He spoke up in January 2010 on the subject of a draft law on fire protection, which he described as a "significant legislative milestone".

In July 2010, the House of Lords hosted the National Credit Union Awards for Excellence , with Brookman among those in attendance.

Brookman is regularly present on meeting days. In 2011 he was there on every day of the meeting with one exception.

family

Since 1958 he has been married to Patricia Worthington, daughter of Lawrence Worthington. You have three daughters.
